Unfinished book business: A top ten list

This week’s top ten list: book series I haven’t finished for one reason or another (as hosted by The Broke and The Bookish). I should also preface this by saying I am not a big series reader, so this list took some thought. Thus, I’m dividing this up: the first five are series I believe need to end (preferably a few books ago) and the second five are ones that I have been shamefully neglecting and haven’t caught up on yet…

In no particular order:

10. The Alex Cross series by James Patterson: In general, I just feel this series needs to end, but I haven’t read the last 5 or so books so maybe it improved…? The start of it was great!

9. The Women’s Murder Club series by James Patterson: Perhaps I just have a James Patterson problem…

8. The Night Huntress series by Janiene Frost: I just lost interest eventually…

7. Shopaholic series by Sophie Kinsella: This is another one I felt had run its course, but it just keeps going!

6. The Southern Vampire Mysteries (Sookie Stackhouse) series: it needed to end a few books ago.

These are ones I can’t wait to catch up on…

5. The Dark Tower Series by Stephen King: I haven’t read the newest one (this one is shameful, I love this series).

4. The Locke and Key Series by Joe Hill and Gabriel Rodriguez: I need to get the latest entry

3. Outlander Series by Diana Gabaldon: I’d love to find out what’s going on with Jamie and Claire, the novels are just SO LONG.

2. The Crowther and Westerman novels by Imogen Robertson: I want to catch up with these too

1. Wolf Hall series by Hilary Mantel: I still need to read book two.

Locke & Key is fantastic! Desperate for more! I am all caught up with nothing to do but wait. Outlander is on my some day list. Like some day when I finish these crazy long George R.R. Martin books….

Outlander is on the eventual list for me too, I’ve read the first three, but the rest of the entries are the size of a door stop. I’ll read them….someday.

Diane Gabaldon series is wonderful and yes, long! I’ve read the first Shopoholic and laughed! Should read more…

I don’t tend to read a series of anything. I almost didn’t finish Wolf Hall. Let’s face it – that book is mammoth and I count it as a great achievement for me that I actually finished it! I don’t have any inclination to go onto the second book though. I couldn’t finish David Mitchell’s Cloud Atlas. I found it impossible to follow but since I put it down there’s been so much talk about it and now a movie…Looks like I might go back to that one at some point. I also couldn’t finish Thomas Mann’s Magic Mountain. That was a while ago and I’m starting to think maybe it was a poor translation i was reading (excuses, excuses) so I want to go back to that one also.
I generally finish the book I pick up but someone recently made me stop and think. She said ‘I don’t have enough years left to waste my time on a book I’m not enjoying so I move on’.

I’m very excited about the Wolf Hall sequel as well! I’m currently trying to get through the first book, and I’m just in love with the way Mantel writes a history textbook with a heart. She really does know her stuff.

I’m also very excited about the new WOLF HALL installment. I’m just madly in love with the way that Mantel writes a history textbook with a heart. It’s very refreshing.

Yes so much to the Night Huntress and Southern Vampire books. It’s so freeing to give up on series books, isn’t it? I hear the Outlander series is great but agreed the books are very long!
