Men I would date in books and other nonsense

Occasionally I have been known to participate in the question of the week (as hosted by Parajunkee and Alison Can Read – New? Follow by email, RSS, or Twitter).  This week’s question (and request): “Who is your to-die-for book crush? What do you think they look like? Add an image to make us all happy.” While I do think the question is a bit ridiculous, I also enjoy questions that make me think. This one did. I am generally not a romantic person, nor am I particularly prone to crushes – especially on fictional people. So this required a lot of thought on my part to come up with a genuine answer. The answer: I have three – Ben Hanscomb  (IT by Stephen King), Stu Redman (The Stand by Stephen King), and George Emerson (A Room with a View by E. M. Forster). I actually picture the same person playing the first two characters (Timothy Olyphant). I imagine George Emerson as an Edwardian Edward Norton.

One of my previous romantic heroes was Edward Fairfax Rochester. Despite my distaste for him, I pictured Michael Fassbender as Mr. Rochester (it is the most recent version of Jane Eyre I’ve watched). Then I saw Shame. Mr. Rochester will never look the same (on a side note: I cannot believe there is now a novel called Jane Eyre Laid Bare – really, eroticizing Jane Eyre? No, just no.)

He really is! I loved him in The Painted Veil, which is what made me think of him in the first place.

Timothy Olyphant was on my mind when I recently read Ice Cold (T-FLAC #17) by Cherry Adair .

Timothy Olyphant as everything. Is it even possible to resist this guy?

To be honest, I picture him as almost any male character over 30 (where the description fits). Under 30, Henry Cavill…

That’s a really well-thought-out answer! My answer was more of an afterthought. :)

I love George from A Room with a View. I really liked Julian Sands from the movie. That’s for commenting in my FF. I had a difficult time deciding between Col Brandon and Captain Wentworth. Love them both!

I love Mr. Rochester but you know that I am sure LOL I love George Emerson as well! What did you think of the movie version of Room With A View?

    • http://taftandco.wordpress.com Rory O’Connor

I like to 80’s one, but I generally think Maggie Smith can do know wrong. I haven’t seen the most recent (2007?), but I do adore the story. I’ll watch it some day, hopefully it’s better than the new Jane Eyre or Wuthering Heights.

I like the 80’s one as well but I didn’t like the newer version!

I’d be happy to look at Timothy O in the role of Barbie (from Under the Dome) as well. Barbie was giving Stu a run for his money as I was listening to Under the Dome. Plus, he has better taste in women.

Frannie’s not that bad! She is only supposed to be 21. She is quite an improvement over most early twenties people I know. I do like Barbie though and Timothy is sort of an “every man” kind of guy. Really, I’m just happy to watch him, regardless of character. I’ve loved both Deadwood and Justified.

I have not read those but I love Timothy Olyphant in Justified. I’m from Southeastern KY (Actually my town gets mentioned on the show) so it’s always interesting to hear them talk about places you know.

Justified is one of the best shows on television. It almost makes me willing to get cable. I get excited when I see shows set in Maine and New Hampshire, so I know what you mean hearing/seeing about home. I thought you might be from Kentucky based on you love of UK :)

Great pick for Stu and Ben, Timothy Olyphant is really handsome :)
