Now Reading…

It’s Monday, but it’s also a holiday! Which means Monday is slightly more tolerable. Last week was good, I started a couple of good books, officially decided to DNF a couple of books that had been lingering over my head, and managed to get outside a few times despite the rain.

On an unrelated, but irritating note, I submitted online content for the website of the place I work. They edited my content for me, removing my oxford comma. Just…no.

So what am I reading? Murder in Mesopotamia by Agatha Christie and Paradise Sky by Joe R. Lansdale.

Monday May 25th

It’s Monday, May 25th, what are you reading? I’m so jealous of everyone who is already having pool or beach days!

I’m reading text books. About population genetics and inbreeding. And looking forward to my exams being over and done with (a few weeks to go).

      You’re almost there!

I’m that person who has the edit out the Oxford commas at my job, and it’s a soul sucking affair. It may have hurt them as much as it hurt you.

Oh Andi! You have my sympathy.

But WHO ARE THESE PEOPLE that are making people remove Oxford commas, and to what end? Is it HURTING these people to have them used? Sheesh.

I just started The Devil You May Know by Elisabeth de Mariaffi. There have been mixed reviews, so we’ll see how it goes, but I’m hoping it will be sufficiently creepy.

I love a good creepy read!

The weather is hit or miss here. One day nice the other day we are drowning. Hope it will get better for you soon.
That Oxford comma is about to turn into a war!
Have a great week with your books.

I’m reading The Invention of Wings for book club, which was one I wasn’t really interested in when it came out, but someone else picked it. I’m having trouble getting into it, and I’m not sure if that’s a pride thing or an overrated thing…

      Overrated. Definitely.

I have never read Agatha Christie, isn’t that crazy?

    • http://www.fourthstreetreview.com/ Rory O’Connor

I’ve read And Then There Were None, which I’d recommend, and Murder in Mesopotamia, which I picked up because I simply liked the cover.

      • http://www.marelden.com mariahelena

And Then There Were None is probably my all time favourite Agatha Christie novel. I recommend Murder at the Vicarage and The Body in the Library.

I’m so glad I am in charge of the website at my library. If someone edited out my Oxford commas, well, I would not be a happy camper, to put it lightly. Ugh.

    • http://www.fourthstreetreview.com/ Rory O’Connor

I was not. I saw that my content was posted and was livid (because they also changed a few of my sentences to make it “sound better”, but lost the meaning of the sentence).

      • http://btweenthecovers.com/ Heather

I would be livid, too. And it’s even more disappointing that this happened at the LIBRARY. Ugh.

What’s your opinion about Murder in Mesopotamia so far? It wasn’t one of my favourites, but I tend to prefer Miss Marple over Hercule Poirot. I finished the last of the Wallander books last week, so now I have to find a new great series to listen to.

PS. They removed the Oxford comma? Blasphemy!

    • http://www.fourthstreetreview.com/ Rory O’Connor

It is….fine. I like it. I’m still reading it. But I can’t say I’m EXCEPTIONALLY excited about it.

Have you read John Sandford’s Prey series?

      • http://www.marelden.com mariahelena

No I haven’t. It’s been on my tbr list for a while but I haven’t gotten around to starting it.

        • http://www.fourthstreetreview.com/ Rory O’Connor

It’s pretty good. It’s probably my favorite American crime series of all time.

OK, I’ll move it to the top of my list 🙂
